I started as a personal trainer in the same line as most others- I trained in (and am from) England, then a few years at a New York based sports club.
It was the time of machine after machine, with gains measured in pounds lifted. There was some moves back to free weights, but mainly a row of machines and boring checking off a card as you went.
I increased my knowledge and training, and got more burned out with the pace and stimulation for me. Much of training is about the trainer and rewards from others improvements, goals reached, so I needed to find another way.
Seeing how many clients were often put off by the fashionable machines, new and intimidating group workouts, I forged in a less trod road of corrective exercise.
I was far from the first, but could see the benefits of focusing on the weak links in the chain and fixing those before advancing. After gaining confidence and ability in this more exciting world, where the seeds of real improvement was held, I was re-energized in my career. Now I could move to another level, getting ahead of dysfunction (less than ideal movement).
In everyday life we repeat the same moves over and over. It cant be helped in many cases- we drive to work, work at a desk, eat dinner. These can have us rounding our backs, shoulders, bringing our head forwards, turning our feet out. With these, there’s also social media drawing us back to phone posture, streaming seasons of shows in a bad position, carrying too much weight in a bag or too often.
My new goal was to help fight against the symptoms of this, in a lasting way, and not requiring a hefty gym membership, or expensive trainer.
I want to help guide people back to their lives, help restore and increase your independence.
I’ve produced a number of videos towards this aim, at various levels- from beginner to advanced, new to exercise, or a workout expert. Each will target key muscles and movement patterns, like a chain, improving body efficiency.
Let’s focus on improvements for you, not pounds lifted in the gym. Take a look below for the free first level.
continue a habit from an old movement pattern, or injury compensation
pounds lifted, not improvements for you.
I’ve broken this program into three levels, each with progressions, so you can move from couch to freedom at your own pace.
If you’ve ever had an injury you’ll know how long it takes to heal, but when it does you’re often not as strong as you need to be. The tissues can heal, but the body needs to reboot, recalibrate, and needs to exercised to optimal level.
Getting individual muscles strong is great, but the movements, and the connective tissue involved, needs to be worked effectively also.
When we think of exercise, we tend to think of losing weight, or machines in the gym. I want to change that and help you see how specific exercise can benefit you. Movement which can get you from immobility, to beyond where you’ve been previously.
